This cookbook is for people who don't cook. We call it the easiest cookbook in the world. It's designed with illustrations and simple instructions. The recipes work even if you're highly distracted and cooking is the last thing on your mind. “Short takes making cooking simple” is the answer to the problem of complicated recipes. It’s not about cooking for a family or making large meals. It’s about tried and tested recipes, good food, safe, fast cooking, lots of graphics and clear instructions. It works. When it comes to giving, this book is a great gift.

"Short Takes is a brilliant cookbook focussed on making cooking simple and engaging, without compromising taste, health or style. Short Takes has a number of features that would make it an ideal cookbook for people presenting with cognitive challenges, such as those with traumatic brain injuries, acquired brain injuries, developmental difficulties etc...or simply those of us who are feeling tired and distracted after a day's work! Those with difficulties in attention, memory, initiation, processing speed, visuospatial difficulties, memory problems and particularly executive functioning will benefit from the uncluttered layout, one recipe per page, the use of both images and words for foods, short simple instructions, boldened verbs
to draw attention to the key instructions, colour coding, common ingredients etc. Short Takes is deliciously simple and I can highly recommend it.

  • A friend shared this wonderful new cookbook with me and I was so impressed that I purchased two copies, one to keep and the other as a gift for a family member. This is easily the most useful and well-presented collection of recipes that virtually anyone could follow that I have ever seen. The pictures of each dish are absolutely gorgeous--congratulations to the author's daughter for splendid photography--and the recipes are delicious--congratulations to the author! Each recipe in the different sections--quick snacks, salads, meals, desserts, and "odds and ends"--includes an easy-to-follow list of ingredients. I especially loved the salmon topped flat bread, chia & guava, and stuffed mushrooms. I highly recommend this cookbook for anyone, but it will be particularly good as a first cookbook for children, new cooks, and persons with intellectual disabilities.
  • I really like the concept of a book such as this. Having worked within the field of 'different learners" all my professional life, plus having one son with Asperger Syndrome, ( and extremely disorganised ), plus a second son with residual cognitive issues following neurosurgery, I am very used to writing lists, and simplifying tasks. This was fine while they were boys, but, now they are grown men, 'motherly advice' is not quite so welcome!! Some of the ingredients would require more input, both financially and in accessing them, ( if one had to take public transport to another suburb, to a Supermarket. )
