However, so little has been written about him beyond his major feat of managing the installation of the Overland Telegraph. I have just read up to the first 15 years in Australia and am amazed at the amount of detail that Denis Cryle and his predecessors have managed to compile up to this point in Todd's life. The book gives form and substance to the man and his work for the first time. It also situates him among his contemporaries in the other Australian Colonies and back in Europe.
