Ebook The Joy of Wokking Martin Yan 9780385183420 Books

"Have definitely hit the mother load with Martin Yan's Chinese cook books and this one ranks right up there with his others that I have bought. I love his format - information, interspersed with recipes, interspersed with anecdotes. It really is a wonderful experience going through his cook books and selecting a recipe to try; it's almost like spending a charming evening with a friend chatting and learning while making a deliciously tasteful meal. A very endearing quality that makes Martin one of my favorite Chinese cook book authors."

Penguin Minis John Green Box Set John Green Books Reviews

  • This review is not about the book titles (they are very well loved, and I enjoy reading them). This review is about the book formatting. The Mini-Books are PHENOMENAL.
I read an article about the Swedish fad of mini-books, and how Penguin, (via Dutton), was giving this mini-book a try via a foursome of John Green books.
Brilliant. These mini-books are more than just an adorable version. These are easy to hold, easy to read, and the formatting is really fantastic.
The upward page flip is easy and intuitive, while still leaving the print font at a regular book size, the super thin pages are comfortable on the eye, and don't have word bleed through.
These are easy to slip in a bag, or even a pocket. I am hoping, praying, that more books get this mini-versioned treatment. Or even new books. I would happily repurchase my well read favorites, or even pick up new ones, if they were printed in this very handy format. Love them!
  • I'm neither here nor there on John Green's books to be honest, but I love love love the dwarsligger format and hope it catches on in English publishing! Small light books with bible-paper thin pages are as easy to carry around as an eReader. I particularly want them to catch on in airports... picking up a dwarsligger instead of a conventional paperback or hardbound book to read during a flight and maybe even just chuck in the recycling when I'm done feels way less wasteful than collecting big, heavy tomes I'm unlikely to reread and will just collect dust at home and weigh down move after move.
  • These fit so well in my hands and are a real delight to read!

I first heard about mini books (or dwarsliggers) from an article in the NYTimes and was fascinated with the idea. Since I already love John Green's books but didn't happen to own any of the 4 in this set I thought they'd be a good buy.

Totally worth it. The book itself is easier to hold, especially if you have arthritis and/or smaller hands although getting used to the thinner pages took me a bit. Once I got the hang of that though, I found reading with these books a real pleasure.
  • First, I just read the 1st book, Looking for Alaska. Excellent. Too my surprise though, I really liked the small book style. It is very easy to carry around and read on the go. I think I like this better than my .
  • These are so cute! Only complaint is that some pages aren't evenly printed. Keep in mind the pages are thin (so it all fits in a tiny pocket sized novel) but if you're careful there should be no problems
  • Purchased on a whim after reading about. A huge hit with all kids.
  • This more about the size than content. I love these books for their size! I really hope they make more! They are perfect for me to throw in my purse and not weigh it down!
  • I’m enamored with the convenient size. The pages are surprisingly thin so it takes a little effort not to skip anything by accident.

Comprehensive Review Guide For The Radiation Therapy Examination 9781791567200 Medicine Health Science Books Reviews

  • I will start by saying this book is a MUST HAVE for registry review. I used it as my main source for studying, reading it cover to cover, and I passed the registry the first time with ease. The layout is very neat and organized and it is full of nothing but pertinent and relevant information. Whoever wrote this book really knows their stuff! I don't understand how any one could write a bad review. (I wouldn't listen to those to be honest) This book is such a great resource to have and I highly recommend it! 11/10 would buy again!
  • This book did a great job preparing me for boards, but there are some mistakes. I would not use this as your only source for studying, but it did help.
  • Unfortunately I had to return this book. There were too many errors to mention. I did love the format and how it followed the ARRT outline perfectly. I just wish the information and answer key were correct.
  • This should not be your go to book for the board exam. It has many errors in it. Nice format though which would be useful if info was correct also needs more detail
  • The layout is very nice, follows ARRT guidelines perfectly. However, there are too many errors within the book to be a trusted source for the board exam.
  • This book was my main source of registry prep and it is amazing! The material was clear, concise, and formatted perfectly to the content specs. I felt that the exam was very easy after using this book to review and I got an excellent score. I would recommend this book to any therapy student prepping for their registry!
  • I used mainly this book and Mosbys for my boards exam. This one is very simplified and easy to read. I loved it. Mosbys is good as well but much more in depth and harder to get through. This book you could easily get through in one day. I went through it several times took notes and then did the two practice exams in the back. Great study tool for the registry i would defintely recommend this book to others!
  • This review is a great source to turn to. It is concise, easy to understand; it summarizes up with everything, to the point in the meantime. It's an expanded spectrum from the ARRT content categories! For those who want to take the registry, it will be a treasure with all the essences.
Plus, readers will also get benefit of manipulating new equipment and mastering complicated treatment techniques.

"This book has been wonderfully inspirational with a large collection of different perspectives and styles. Each artist covered tells you a bit of their history, sources of inspiration, materials they use and their particular techniques for working. Sprinkled throughout are little passages of advice that one can go back to again and again. The styles of artists cover a great variety, everything from the horrific, to the goofy, comic and beautiful. They include architecture drawings as well as creatures and people. This book, along with the, 'Fantasy," version have really had a great effect on my own work and have led me to be more greatly excited and productive. I keep these books in the bathroom so that whenever I am there I can go back and find more and more reasons to keep working. These books have been a great find."

Sketching from the Imagination Characters 3dtotal Publishing 9781909414396 Books Reviews

  • So when i bought this i thought it was going to be a book that was going to help me draw better by giving me tips and tricks. In a way it did but not the way i expected it too. This book is a compilation of other artist and the way they make their characters. They give a sense of background, they explain their inspirations and ideas, what materials they use, and how they start or do their sketching and their techniques. It also shows some of their sketches. Overall i really did like reading/looking at this book it a nice way to look at other artist, looking at their styles and how they got their ideas.
  • This book has been wonderfully inspirational with a large collection of different perspectives and styles. These books have been a great find.
  • I thought i wrote a review on this already, but i don't see it. I have purchased 4 of these books (Characters, Sci-fi, Fantasy, and Creative Drawing). As a newer artist myself (just as a hobby), i find these to be full of inspiration. Not only it is inspiring to flip though the sketches and see the artwork, but reading about each artist and their process, or tips they share, is insightful. I didn't give it 5 stars because like someone else mentioned the quality of the paper is not great so i don't know if they will last over a long period of time. But if you want to be exposed to other artists out there and get all inspired to make art yourself, this is for you!
  • Lovely book with some incredible artists in here. My favorites being Ramon Nunez and Nurzhan Bekkaliyev. I have used this book for the great advice that the artists give in their sections and as for studying purposes. Definitely recommend this book if you want to start drawing appealing characters.
  • Book is full of inspiring art from many different artists. Will inspire you to get off your hands and draw as well as show you some of the cool things and places you can go with art.
  • THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!!! it's a trove of inspiration if you're an illustrator, animator, concept artist, or character designer, illustrative art appreciator, etc. totally should be on the list for essentials in art school, or just something to browse when you're art-blocked. I LOVE it!!
  • I love seeing artists sketches. It shows me the way they process their ideas and the raw energy of the sketch that sometimes gets lost in the final pieces. This book is full of sketches with notes from artists describing their thoughts on their works.
  • Awesome book. Full of gorgeous art and notes on how each artist thinks and draws. It’s just great to look at for inspiration and it’s so cool to see other artists thoughts on their art. So worth the price.

p>Just as huge nuclear explosions result from small spheres of plutonium, the story of the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons plant near Denver, Colorado is much larger than itself. It is about the Church family, who came West seeking gold in 1861, stayed to raise cattle, watched the federal government take a large piece of its land for the weapons plant in 1951--and now is busily developing real estate in the booming suburbs next to the contaminated plant site. It is about the government and private corporations that produced the deadliest devices in history for thirty-seven years, concealed problems behind the wall of national security secrecy, and came close to a Chernobyl-scale disaster during a 1969 fire. It is about plant managers who cut corners to maintain weapons production, workers who saw themselves as loyal Cold War soldiers, and citizen activists who challenged the plant's very existence. And it is about a community that profited from thousands of jobs and contracts but now faces long-term environmental and health risks.

Making a Real Killing examines the way Americans participated in building a nuclear weapons arsenal capable of destroying the human species. To read it is to learn some sobering lessons, including the fact that the democratic process lagged decades behind technological developments.

"As Americans reckon with the legacy of the Cold War, Making a Real Killing deserves a place at the center of our attention. Len Ackland's integrity and hard work remind us how crucial energetic journalism is for a successful democracy."--Patricia Nelson Limerick

Making a Real Killing Rocky Flats and the Nuclear West Len Ackland Books Reviews :

Making a Real Killing Rocky Flats and the Nuclear West Len Ackland Books Reviews

  • I grew up near Rocky Flats and have always found these stories of the nuclear arms industry really interesting, but this one is a good one. The early history goes in depth and the political connections at the time are explained which led to the selection of Colorado for the site selection, and the downfall and abysmal management are also "fun" to read about. I always feel that these stories are similar to the space race, where it is a story of science that is disconnected from reality.

If you are reading this for fun then the voice will be interesting to you, and if you are writing a paper or the like, there are plenty of facts in the ~200 pages that you can cite. This story has something for every reader.
  • This book is a must read. I would have done well to read it when it came out. It took an earthquake, a tsunami, and a nuclear disaster to wake me up from a slumber and a recollection of the place I grew up.
March 11, 2011, found many of us wondering what to do. Those of us living in Japan were faced with the question of leaving our homes and pets and families to escape what had happened or would potentially happen.
Many did leave and they have their own stories. Many stayed and have their own stories to tell.
I remembered my fourth grade teacher saying in 1974 that "the Soviets have a missile pointed at your back yard." Along with KGB novels, this is how he disciplined our class.
I remembered the rumors about "two headed goats" or "glowing fish". This was way before "The Simpson's" and Three Mile Island or Chernobyl. I remembered my parents saying our suburban home north of Denver "used to be ranch land." Our streets were named after the ranchers who sold their ranch land to make the red-bricked suburban homes built in the 1960's.
I began to read and found Len Ackland's well-researched book explaing this history to me and from reading it, it all became so clear and I realized that from the close proximity of my home to Rocky Flats, the water I grew up drinking that flowed under Rocky Flats into the reservoir that brought the water into our kitchen, the leaking drums of nuclear waste out on the prairie, winds, fires, that I was much further from Fukushima than I was from Rocky Flats and the Rocky Mountain Arsenal between both of which my home sat. Both are now claiming to be "wildlife refuges." Will there one day be a "Fukushima Wildlife Refuge?"
I decided to stay in Japan. Ironically, I am in Japan because my Japanese husband did a homestay with my friend whose father worked at Rocky Flats. It touched our lives in many ways we were not aware of perhaps.

This is a very good way to learn about the history of the Denver area as well. It is a "colorful" history and the research is impressive.
  • This is a superb and in depth study of the ever growing, problematic nuclear weapons plants that are now a plague spread across our country and world wide ! Ackland has shown the details of the deliberate lies and cover ups that are based from the AEC thru the prime contractors and down to the management level then push onto the workers who's very lives have been sacrificed in the game of Cold War politics ! The promise of good paying jobs and steady employment betrays the growing communities that spring up in the down-wind path of radioactive fallout and drainage runoff that now and forever will continuously poison each generation of families who live in it's wake. Proof that the govt. and Pentagon will do anything to maintain it's veil of secrecy via it's propaganda machine, muting the FBI and bypassing grand jury indictments while the DOE , Rockwell and DOW walk away from their criminal activities ! Who will pay the ultimate price , ..... ? The workers with their hands in the glove boxes !
  • Excellent book. Thoughtful, well researched, balanced. Ackland's analysis of the Rocky Flats saga is possibly the best and most accurate of the various "histories" of the site. Written from the perspective of an investigative journalist it digs into all the nooks, cranies and crevices to tell an absolutely amazing story of human hubris and arrogance as well as "cold war" stupidity. Well done.
  • I look forward to reading this book. I was a Nuclear Engineer at Rocky Flats in the 80's. I quit after less than a year on site because I feared for my health. The plant was a mess. Everyone should read about what the cold war did to our country.

*I have read the book now* and I can say honestly that what I knew then was not half what I know now....this Nuclear plant was a disaster. I quit for fear for my health, and now I know I did the right thing....EVERY American should read this book...The price that the weapons race cost our country. And to think that suburban Denver is only a short distance away from this site...scarey.
  • Well-written, well-researched with copious notes. Raising of the "national security" flag to avoid disclosure of information that the public has a need to know. With all the concern over aging nuclear power plants and how/where to dispose of expended materials, this book is a valuable resource.
  • The single, most important, "must read" on all things about the Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant.
  • Lots of important information on how our nuclear weapons industry has been mismanaged. Even if you are not a technical person it should be easy to understand.
