• I once heard this quote Our neuroses cause the most psychic distress when those who inculcated them die and move beyond argument and mercy. This book brought me a lot of peace of mind before and after my father died. It enabled me to share with my father how the past had caused me great pain, but I nonetheless wanted to move beyond that in a more helpful and loving way. He could not hear what I had to say, but being able to articulate it, after reading this book, gave me great peace of mind for many years afterwards. So, when he passed away, I had no regrets about not having tried to heal the relationship. I had done all I could responsibly do; I resolved I was not responsible for the riff that had lasted for two decades. I was free.
• I haven’t been in contact with my family for a year. Most of my adult life I spent trying to be the good helpful oldest sibling. And my father would repeatedly ,after drinking, point his finger at me and tell me how he beat my legs with a stick when I wandered off as a toddler. Not quite one year old. My life was filled with him saying that and other demeaning remarks. He has his favorites amongst my siblings, not me. Eventually it took an event to make me finally leave.
  I kept trying to forgive him, and the siblings. This book made me understand I needed to be angry, so I let myself be angry and hold he and my siblings accountable for the multitude of times I helped them out, and was left to struggle when I really needed love and support.
  I am not planning to go back. I have a loving family of my own, so I cut the strings. Love is a two way street, not a race track where you get trampled by your horribly enmeshed siblings all anxious to please a narcisstic father. I recused myself from the family trust, just for my peace of mind. I at least don’t need to worry. How the future with each individual sibling goes, ?
• This book is by far the most helpful and insightful book I've ever read. I was always indirectly verbally abused by whole life by my father and grandmother in terms of teasing about my physical appearance and calling me sensitive or saying that I know they are just teasing when I would get upset. I would have sever anxiety anytime I had to visit them since I never knew what they were going to pick on me about. The past year I have finally started to talk back and not take the verbal abuse. Because I've stopped taking it and changed the family dynamic, my Father turned to physical abuse a couple days ago. This book is a lifesaver to help me coupe with what happened, how I can move past this incident, and not repeat the cycle of verbal/physical abuse with my future children. My parents divorced when i was around age 8 and after the incident this weekend, my mother is finally telling me all the things he use to do to her when they were married. I've finally realized that being verbally abused by family isn't normal and it should be a safe place where you are accepted. My mother is going to read this book also since her father was also extremely verbally abusive. I'm doing the exercises the book outlines and i'm amazed at how much sadness and anger i have inside. I've finally let go of the facade of having the perfect father. This book will make you cry so I suggest reading it alone to fully soak in a reflect.
• I came to understand my father's behavior was emotional abuse late in life, age 50, when I started to have powerful reactions to how he treated my brother's daughters. What I did not know, until this book opened my eyes, was that my mother, whom everyone in the world loves (and for good reason) was complicit in the abuse because she never told my father to stop. She never protected me and she wasn't now protecting her granddaughters. Let me tell you, suddenly coming to terms, at 50, with with your sainted mother's participation in an abusive cycle was a horrible shock, but without this book, I don't know if I would have uncovered it myself and thereby begun the journey healing and begun to call attention to it within the family thereby empowering my nieces to begin establishing and enforcing boundaries. One of the things that I really appreciate about this book is that the author believes us. She really believes us when we say that we were abused. As anyone knows who's told someone who knows the abuser, especially a family member, being believed is the first obstacle. Most people we tell really don't believe us. The abuse we tell of doesn't fit the person they think they know, so they dismiss it. Not Dr. Forward! This is not to say that she fawns over us or coddles us. It is simply to say that she believes us and educates us, helps us understand why this might have happened and gives us powerful tools to learn and grow, to step into our power. I don't even know her and yet I feel indebted to her for this painful, but very necessary book.
• I loved this book. It was sad, but it got me through a lot of emotions I had and didn't even realize why I had them. I would recommend this book for any person that feels their parents are mean, makes you feel bad about yourself, makes you feel obligated to them and guilty. The guidelines in it are great. I think Susan Forward knows her stuff!!

• There are many "self-help" books on the market that contain solid information. However, General McRaven's Make Your Bed comes across as refreshingly different from those books by well known self-help gurus like Dr. Phil or Tony Robbins mainly because the anecdotes he uses to illustrate his ten key points are gleaned from his experiences as a Navy SEAL. I read this little book in one sitting and plan to buy copies for my children. In a nutshell, McRaven says that life is tough, but meeting challenges with discipline, determination, a positive attitude and the support of others will most often lead an individual to a meaningful life that will inspire others.
• Excellent. Gave it to my 11 year old grandson, he read it in 4 days annd played back the message of never giving up when you encounter a tough situation and the importance of teamwork
• As an eighth grade teacher I see children everyday who never take a risk, who don't know how to work properly on teams, and stay down after an ounce of bad news or criticism. I wish I could buy 150 copies for each student I teach.
• I got this as a kindle book and starting reading it before hitting the sack. I read the entire book straight through, underlining my favorite passages, and it is so well written! Lots of simple but sage advice and this book will be on my annual re-read list. Great advice from a great hero!!
• This book is an excellent short read, full of great life lessons for anyone. Although the examples are from a military life, it is not a military book. I will gladly recommend this book to all of my kids and fourteen grand kids !
• I saw the author on Fox news, and was intrigued. I am certainly not SEAL tough, never was, but anyone can incorporate this into his life. If you are slightly better today than yesterday, and slightly better tomorrow than today, your life will be more meaningful and impactful. I will be purchasing additional copies as gifts.
• Outstanding book! Easy, enjoyable read intertwined with important reminders about life. Adm. McRaven uses his time in Naval Special Warfare to background these life lessons, but, doesn't use his service as a SEAL as a self promotion tool.
• A respectful, thought provoking book which should be required reading for all adults, and maybe reread a couple of times at different stages in a person's life. It gives purpose and direction. What a very fortunate graduating class to have begun life hearing from Admiral McRaven.

• I absolutely love when these two authors come together!! This book had everything I love about books just the right amount of sexy moments and a whole lot of sweet moments that keep you reading and you don't want to put it down!!
• I love a story where all parties know what they want and go for it. Felicity and Hawk were the cutest and everyone loves the quirky best friend and cool dad. From culinary rivals to cooperative lovers...it's all good!
• This story between Felicity and Hawke was wonderful. It was so sweet. Another great hit for these ladies. You will definitely want to read this.
• Felicity avoids Hawk because he tempts her and she isn't sure that she likes how he makes her feel. When she is almost in an accident Hawk makes his move on her. Hawk has wanted her since he first saw her but he didn't know how to penetrate her defenses. As a thank you Felicity bring him his favorite cookies but he asks her to dinner instead. Things heat up between them at dinner and its not long before they are at his place. After an amazing night with Hawk, Felicity is still confused but Hawk isn't going to stop in his pursuit of her until she is his. Will she give him a chance at her heart?
  
  This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

• Felicity can't handle her feelings for their business rival Hawk. So she pretends to hate him even though all she thinks about is being in his arms. Her and her partner Rebecca are trying so hard to make it but Hawk is so talented. Hawk wants Felicity in his life and he is going to go after what he wants. He can't wait any longer to make her his.
  
  This was the sweetest little St Patrick's Day novella, a little gem of a tale that captures the joy of wishes coming true. Jenika Snow and Sam Crescent are so talented; giving us these sweet, sexy shorts that are perfectly satisfying and oh so enjoyable. I always enjoy escaping into their stories of romance and love and this one is no exception. Five stars for As Luck Would Have It!
• Loved this story and it's characters. Felicity and her best friend, Rebecca own a bakery together. Felicity sees the cafe across the street as competition and therefore has always felt like she needed to hate the owner, Hawk. Too bad she couldn't convince her body of that. So when something happens that brings them closer together she must confront her true feelings for Hawk. Hawk has been wanting a date with Felicity since they meet and he knows she sees him as competition. Can he make her feel otherwise? Grab this awesome book to find out!!!

• First I am not one for diets. Second I was very skeptical about this. I bought my friend a book too. She went to the extreme and did everything she was suppose to and well, I gradually worked in the foods that are beneficial for me and removed the foods that weren't. Within three months my friend went from being in bed all the time, depressed, aching joints, ADD, etc... to being energetic, not ADD, younger looking skin, etc. I mean a completely different person that was obvious to all of us around her. Needless to say I was shocked. Still don't quite understand how food has that kind of impact on the body but the proof was undeniable. So, I and my other friend decided to buckled down and do exactly what the book said to do. I am type O so there were some foods to avoid that were my favorite like Avocado, corn, etc. but for the most part it was easy. I just literally threw everything out of my kitchen that was not type O approved. For me I am a picky eater so wasn't sure how this was going to go. Well, I am still eating type O after four years now. Before I would be in the hospital three to four times a year due to bronchitis, asthma, etc. Always on an antibiotic or steroid, etc. When you walk into an ER and the doctors remember you and know how to treat you off of their memory it is pretty sad. I was also the type of person where if someone was sick and even near me for a minute it was just a matter of time that I was going to be sick too, every single time. Well, in the four years doing type O I have not been sick once. Not even once. I have been around people that were very sick and never once have I been sick. Have not had any antibiotics or steroids. My other friend no longer clears his throat that he did repeatedly for 10 years. One of the key issues was corn for us. Anything with corn...corn starch, etc. in fact, after three months of being on type O strictly if I have something with corn starch my body and my friend's body reacts immediately...head pressure, sinus pressure it is crazy. Not all avoid foods will my body react to dramatically but there are key ones it will and I am like I should not have eaten that. Still don't understand the science behind it. But now several people I know eat this way and every single one of us has changed and improved dramatically. What is even crazier I don't even crave the foods I really liked that are on my avoid list and crave foods now that I thought I would never eat. I love spinach now, before maybe once a year. I love pizza with just a little olive oil, crushed garlic, feta, spinach, no sauce, kalamata olives, maybe some red onions...my favorite...before I loved cheese pizza but not no more. I eat mozzarella cheese over cheddar. Eat feta cheese now. Never ate onions in my life but now do, it is crazy. My body literally craves type O food it is absolutely mind blowing. I mean anyone that tries eating their blood type and does so strictly for at least three months, meaning avoid all avoid foods, eat all beneficial foods, etc. will see a major difference. As I have seen it with my own eyes with several different blood types. It works, can't explain it. I bought the app on my iPhone so when in the grocery store I just quickly look up an item as type O can have mushrooms but some mushrooms are on my avoid list so I just click on the app as I can never remember which one and know immediately what to buy and what not too.
• I think someone's opinion on this book is going to be largely based on their health going into the diet. I first found this book in high school and my mom said I was an A blood type so I concentrated on vegetarian foods. I was happy to do this because it was in the 90's and all my teen magazines promoted low fat and vegetarian diets and of course, I wanted to be like the models. I would skip the meat part of the meal and I would never get full. My weight ballooned. I had digestive problems. After about 4 years, I developed a chronic cough that never went away. I went to a lung specialist and he told me I probably had cystic fibrosis and sent me to the hospital to get tested. My sodium test was borderline. He was so sure that I had it, he sent me to another hospital in another town to have the test retaken because he thought the staff was bad at the first place. My test was borderline again. He gave me all sorts of steroids to help with the cough and eventually it went away.
  
  Anyway, fast forward years and my health was destroyed. I ended up desperate to fix it so I went to college for dietetics and became a nutritionist. Of course, dietetic school said this was a fad diet so I went on a dietary guidelines plan. I was able to lose a little weight because I had incorporated meat back into my diet.
  
  'Fast forward a year out of school, I discovered the paleo diet and my whole world was better. I thrived on the paleo diet, lost weight, and told everyone about it. I was one of the first nutritionists on the web promoting it, but then something happened. Some of my clients did horrible on it. I just assumed they were not doing it right. Then I had my son and my pregnancy with him was a train wreck. I was sick all the time and I couldn't eat anything but turkey (this is a hint at what blood type he was going to be).
  
  I tried to eat a paleo diet when I was pregnant with him and he wouldn't let me. When I was breastfeeding, he didn't like the paleo diet either. It was torture. My mom was managing a health food store at the time and she had blood type supplements on her shelf. I grabbed them and took them to my naturalpath doctor to ask her about them. She highly recommended the blood type diet.
  
  What I discovered was that I wasn't an A; I was an O and I was doing the diet backwards for years. That's also why I thrived on paleo and my son was an A and he hates meat. Now, as a four year old, he only eats chicken maybe 2 times a month. He loves protein shakes and I don't push meat on him because I know your body will naturally like what it needs. It is insane though because our eating styles are exactly opposite and I am grateful for this book because I know that his needs are different from mine and I shouldn't force him to eat what I like.
  
  So, my point to this long review is that some people may not like this book because they might not be experiencing any health issues so they don't see the difference or others might not try it long enough. Also, you can see by my story what eating the wrong diet did to my health and it didn't take long.
  
  I love Dr. D Adamo. I use his supplements. I read all of his books. I use his skin care. As a nutritionist, I have studied the science and it's there. This isn't a fad diet.
  When you have your blood type you have a blue print for your health. It's freedom.
  One thing that I love about him that I have to add is his ability to speak against what's popular. When I was pregnant, it didn't make sense to me how I could carry a type A baby, if type A blood would kill me. I developed a horrible rash called the pupps rash. I saw 5 OBGYN's and I told them all my theory that I was reacting to the blood of the baby and they all thought I was nuts. After I delivered I still believed the reason I was so sick in pregnancy was because of the blood type difference. Years later I read in one of Dr. D Adamo's books that he supports that theory of the most difficult pregnancies are usually type O mom's with A babies because they are opposite in dietary needs. And warning don't get the flu shot because it will make worse.
  
  I could go on forever about this book, but I'll give you a break .

• It's a long, often repetitive book, perhaps best read along with a couple of others to break the monotony. It is also a well-documented book and a thoroughly interesting read; a real eye-opener to the dirty world of nation-sponsored assassinations and the inevitable repercussions such acts demand of an enemy, any enemy.
  
  What Immediately comes across is the great difficulty and rarity of performing successful operations, which is a good thing because they apparently got a lot wrong before Meir Dagan restructured Mossad . The tit-for-tat vengeance reaped by one side and then the other is the endless, self-destroying regional legacy that we still see today. These pages of stories of death bear remarkable resemblance to the phrase "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." In that, the book is a frustrating read, much like the realities of life in that region with no end in sight to the miseries that that long-bloodied land beholds.
  
  The post-September 11th chapters are especially interesting, and should be mandatory reading for every world leader.
  
  Great men have tried solutions. None have yet been found. And so it continues.
• “Rise and Kill First,” Ronen Bergman’s revelatory and astonishing history of Israel’s targeted assassinations, is a brilliant and prodigiously researched work. Readers will be riveted and amazed both by the scale of the killings carried out by the Israeli security services and by their tactical genius. They will likewise be appalled by the price in human lives, both innocent and not so innocent, at which Israel’s survival has been purchased. And they will be profoundly saddened as they comprehend how that survival has required the best and bravest of Israel’s young men and women to steel themselves against the fundamental moral precepts that govern ordinary life.
  
  Bergman bluntly tells us – and most readers will agree – that the targets of Israel’s assassinations deserve to die. They have planned and
  executed the cold-blooded murder of hundreds of Israeli civilians – men, women, children and infants – as they go about the activities of their daily lives. No cause, no grievance, can ever mitigate such atrocities. And in war, where there is no realistic possibility of arresting and trying the perpetrators, the justice of striking them down is, at least to this reader, not open to serious moral question.
  
  But things are not always so simple, even when the target of an assassination is a terrorist murderer. As in one instance recounted by Bergman, it may happen that, despite the best efforts of counter-terror forces to ensure that the target will be at home alone when the hit occurs, he must be shot in front of his wife and teenage daughter. Unpleasant, says the operative in relating the story to Bergman, but the job must be done. And he does not hesitate to do it.
  
  Infinitely worse, of course, is the loss of totally innocent life that is the virtually inevitable by-product of assassinations carried out from the air or by explosive. As detailed by Bergman, Israel does try to prevent this, and countless operations have been aborted because of the likelihood that unacceptable “collateral damage” will occur. But if no harm to innocents were deemed tolerable, many operations could simply not be carried out.
  
  And that would not be without consequence to innocent Israelis. As Bergman shows, in some cases where operations were called off because of the likelihood of harm to innocent bystanders, the terrorists thus spared have gone on to commit attacks in which dozens of Israeli civilians were killed. That causes one security officer to tell Bergman that although it causes him genuine pain when an Arab child is killed in an Israeli operation, if a child is going to be harmed, he would prefer that the child not be Israeli. Is it wrong, or natural, to care for one’s own people first?
  
  The Israeli government has no doubt about the answer. And although many innocent Arab lives were lost in the unprecedented number of Israeli assassinations that took place in response to the horrific wave of terrorism that struck Israel during the Second Intifada, those operations, together with the IDF’s Defensive Shield offensive in the West Bank, gave the lie to the familiar bromide that there is no military solution to terrorism. The Israelis found one, putting down the Second Intifada by force of arms. In winning that victory, Israel’s program of targeted assassinations played an important part.
  
  More recently, Israel has targeted Iranian scientists working on the country’s nuclear program for elimination. That caused a female Mossad agent to stand up at one meeting and declare that her father was a scientist who had helped develop Israel’s nuclear capacity and ask her colleagues whether they would consider him a legitimate target for assassination by the enemy. Her question did not receive much by way of an answer, but the killing of Iranian nuclear scientists continued.
  
  Unfortunately, the dazzling feat of groundbreaking reportage and riveting narrative achieved by Bergman in “Rise and Kill First” is marred in the book’s final pages by some unaccountable and highly misleading statements about the agreement concerning Iran’s nuclear program (formally known as the “Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action”(“JCPOA”))reached between Iran and six world powers in July 2015. Relating the prior clash between former Mossad chief Meir Dagan and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the feasibility and wisdom of an Israeli military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Bergman writes that the JCPOA , which mooted their debate, was
  
  an Iranian capitulation to a number of demands that the ayatollahs had been rejecting for years. Iran agreed to dismantle the nuclear project almost entirely and to be subject to strict limits and supervision for many years into the future
  
  In view of the heated controversy then raging in the United States over whether the JCPOA would effectively restrain Iran’s nuclear program, or put it on a glide path to becoming a nuclear-armed power, Bergman’s characterization of the agreement as an “Iranian capitulation” is nothing less than startling. And while one might argue that whether the deal was a good one or a bad one is a matter of opinion, Bergman misstates the underlying facts on which his opinion is based.
  
  Thus, contrary to his assertion, the deal did not require Iran to “dismantle” anything, let alone its “entire[ ]” nuclear project; it only required that Iran mothball centrifuges that exceeded the agreement’s limits during its term. And the agreement provided that its restrictions on Iran’s enrichment of uranium to near-fissile purity would sunset after 15 years, hardly a prohibitive period to religious fanatics playing a long game.
  
  Further, the agreement placed no restrictions on Iran’s development of ballistic missiles, and its research on high speed centrifuges was allowed to continue. As to the latter, even Barack Obama acknowledged that, after the agreement’s sunset, high-speed centrifuges could “[shrink] breakout times [for Iran to construct a nuclear bomb] . . . almost down to zero.”
  
  Bergman refers to none of this in characterizing the JCOPA as an “Iranian capitulation.” Similarly, while asserting (without much explication) that the agreement represented “a double triumph” for Meir Dagan, he fails to mention that the JCPOA was opposed not only by Benjamin Netanyahu, but also by opposition leaders Isaac Herzog and Tzipi Livni, in very strong terms.
  
  The result is that a not otherwise-informed reader could well come away with a false, or at best incomplete, picture of the issues surrounding the Iran nuclear agreement. To me that is a grievous fault, but one paragraph in a book of more than 600 pages cannot affect its overall quality.
  
  Bergman ends his book with a lament that Israel’s intelligence and security agencies have been so successful as to foster “the illusion among most of the nation’s leaders that covert operations . . . could be used in place of real diplomacy.” Toward the end of his life, Bergman writes, Meir Dagan (who is the deserved hero of this book) realized “that only a political solution with the Palestinians – the two-state solution – could end the 150-year conflict.” Ill with cancer, Dagan tried with his last energy to persuade the Israeli public to elect a leadership that would vigorously pursue that aim.
  
  But his efforts were to no avail. Despite the enormous adulation he enjoyed as the ultimate Israeli master spy, Dagan’s speech, as well as the calls of many other former heads of the intelligence and military establishments for a compromise agreement with the Palestinians
  . . . have all fallen on deaf ears.
  
  One can easily imagine what may animate the longing for peace of retired heroes like Meir Dagan. They have dedicated their lives to protecting Israeli civilians from the remorseless terrorists who would murder them, and that has required them to do terrible things. Reflecting on what they have seen and done, it would not be surprising for them to feel moral qualms and wish there was another way. As one former head of the security service observed in the film The Gatekeepers, “[w]hen you leave Shin Bet, you become a bit of a leftist.”
  
  Being removed from the dirty business of targeted assassinations, the average Israeli voter may see things more dispassionately. What he sees is the Palestinians’ unremitting intransigence, their rejection without counteroffer of generous Israeli proposals for a two-state solution, the Palestinian Authority’s pension payments for the murder of Israeli men, women and children, and the Holocaust denial and gross anti-Semitism of Mahmoud Abbas, the supposedly moderate president of the PA.
  
  What exactly can be done to persuade such people to negotiate in good faith about peace? Ronen Bergman doesn’t say.
• This is an amazing book, sometimes very disturbing but consistently providing a journalistic view of Israel and it’s fight for survival. The story is one I knew in broad outline but this book puts flesh on the basic bones. It let me understand the driving forces, and the people behind, many critical decisions made during Israel’s tumultuous history. Overall, I came away with the sense that, warts and all, mistakes (and there were many) and all, Israel needed to do what was done to survive. A must read for anyone interested in the history of Israel or just fascinated by deep insight into one of the worlds best secret services.
• I anticipated this book would be bias and focused on exciting details of the various operations, but instead it was a non-bias and self-critical review of Israel's various covert operations against terrorists and state actors. The book is worth reading strictly to gain insights into the Israel's history and the broader dynamics in the Middle East and beyond. From a strategy perspective it provides details on the national level decision making process that went into many operations, to include cases where poor judgment resulted in undesired effects. At the tactical level, special operators will find a wealth of lessons based on the successes and failures of Israel's numerous covert operations. It is written well, and even the layperson will find it understandable.
• This book seems like a history of Israel in some respects, except Bergman decided to narrow his focus. He has tons of references, interviews, and sources.Took a long time to write.  The secret history makes fiction look tame. Gives fiction writers plenty to develop for plots and clandestine scenarios. Amazing work.
• Excellent and important book. Unbelievable access and research. When the head of an intelligence agency says he is disturbed by how a writer managed to get so much information, you know the writer is doing something right!
